U8 BOYS Practice plan week of May 8

Theme:  passing

Stations this week.
This way there is less set up and you only have to plan one drill.  You will run that one station for the entire hour.  Kim/Guy can you run the clock.  Switch ups every 7-8 minutes or so.  Whistle or horn to switch stations.  If you can get an able parent to move your group if you only have one coach, that will help keep things efficient.  Move in a clockwise direction. If you don't get through all stations, that's okay.
Start with meeting up with your team and telling them what is going on for today.  At about 5:35 whistle will go to start your station.  I have set it up like a practice but obviously order is not that important.

Warm up-  Dribble grid    -   Jeff Wilson
-15x15 grid
- review of dribbling from last week.  (See coaching points from last weeks post)
-turns, tick tocks, storks, inside, outside of foot, left and right foot, fakes etc...

Agility Station  -  Brock
- you will have access to cones and agility ladders (grab these from storage, then pass them on to Corbet McCabe who will use them after you.

Passing and Receiving in pairs  - Loris
Set up a series of 5 yard x 5 yard grids. Two players with a ball between each pair face each in each grid. On two touches they pass the ball to each other, using the inside of the foot both to control and pass the ball. Work in 20 second segments to maintain intensity and form. Ask the players how many passes they can complete in a set time period - try for two touch.  ***Please enforce not stopping the ball with the sole of the foot b/c of injury potential***

**I demoed this at our session**
Focus on good form, receive with one foot....good first touch...pass with other foot
-athletic stance (on toes/balls of feet/ready position)
-planting foot next to ball pointing at partner
-strike ball with side of foot, firm ankle  (no floppy ankles)
-person receiving ball, moves to the ball

Passing and Receiving Triangles  -  Kim & Guy
Simple drill passing and following your pass.  Working on receiving with one foot and passing with the other.
Just watch video to get idea of pattern of drill...
OR if your numbers aren't working for you  (Both are good, pick one)

Passing and moving, super basic drill
Set up two lines of cones, passing distance apart.  Pass across to opposite side, follow pass.  Receive with one foot, pass with the other.  Once ball gets to end dribble ball back to start of line.  Get a second & third? ball going to ensure people are alert and on their toes.  Just watch video for drill pattern, you will note that they are not doing a good job of receiving with one foot and passing with the other.  I really want you to work on this good first touch.

Passing and Receiving on the move  -  Stacey & Marissa
15x15 grid cones at corners and along side
one ball between two people, start with simple movement around the grid, pass and cut to space calling for next pass, move to passing and then running around a cone along the outside the grid and then receiving the ball.
Focus on nice crisp passes on the turf and good first touch.  No floppy ankles!  Move to the ball.

Scrimmage    Tracey & Mike
small field, small goals, must pass 3 times before try to score.  work on triangles and width plus always supporting the ball.
